Alkagesta attended Miller’s DayWithMiller programme and Annual Cocktail Event in Paris on 8 October, according to an account published by the company. The gathering brought together more than 400 participants from the commodity trade finance and risk sectors. Those represented included trading businesses, banks, investment funds, development finance institutions, insurers and reinsurers, placing the event across both the financing and insurance sides of commodity trading.
The daytime programme consisted of workshops organised by Miller’s Credit, Surety and Political Risk team. Alkagesta said industry speakers addressed trade credit, political risk and the management of commodity-related exposures. Discussions covered credit and surety arrangements as well as marine cargo and political risk insurance. The company presented the sessions as an opportunity to examine the financial structures and insurance instruments supporting responsible commodity trading, rather than announcing a new product or transaction.
According to Alkagesta, the workshops also allowed participants to discuss how institutions approach risk management and compliance in an increasingly complex operating environment. An evening cocktail reception followed the sessions, providing a further setting for contacts across the commodity industry’s finance and risk community. The company described that part of the gathering as focused on networking and developing relationships among participants.
Alkagesta linked its participation to its stated priorities of strengthening risk management, building closer ties with insurance and reinsurance partners, and demonstrating compliance and governance standards across its international trading business. The company said its activities span petroleum products, biofuels, fertilisers and steel in approximately 48 countries. It described its network of trade finance, risk and insurance counterparties as central to carrying out those activities responsibly. The account sets out the company’s rationale for attending, but does not report a new financing facility, insurance agreement or change to its trading operations.
